Assessment in KS3 Science
Students will be assessed during every topic studied. The methods of assessment include::
• A short answer ‘standard’ test
• An assessed practical investigation
• An open-ended task to assess pupil progress using clearly defined and leveled criteria
Assessment grades will be stored on the school data base so progress can be tracked throughout the year. The average levels achieved throughout each term will be used by each subject teacher to assign a current level of attainment to each student.
independent Learning in KS3
Homework is a vital aspect of learning during KS3 and students need to augment their school studies with specific homework tasks and revision. Homework activities will usually require students to consolidate their learning or to explore new concepts through guided research. Students should expect to spend the following amounts of time on homework:
• Year 7: 1 hour
• Year 8: 1.5 hours
• Year 9: 2 hours
